Walton Lea Project

The project began in 1998 provides training for people with learning and physical difficulties. Initially there were just seven adults with learning difficulties at the walled garden in Higher Walton. Now, there is also a site in Orford - the Long Lane Garden Centre and over seventy adults are supported. Youngsters from local high schools receive training and undertake work experience on site. Volunteers receive practical training whilst helping out We provide a mobile shop service to the local community selling our own fruit and vegetables and other locally sourced produce. We also organise a monthly Farmers market which is well supported and has an average of 15-20 stalls each time.
We grow a wide range of plants as well as our fruit and vegetables and these are sold from our on site shops and external plant sales which may be at summer fairs, carnivals and the like.
We undertake gardening work in the area including creating gardens in schools and other places. It is fair to say that the Walton Lea Project across both its sites is a very important part of the community.
