1st Ellon Scout Hall Repairs

A SCOUT group is looking for help to refurbish its run-down hut.
The 1st Ellon Scout Group has set up a parent committee to raise funds for repairs to its base on Millwood Road.
Stewart Philip, whose son is a member of the Scout Beaver Group, said the hall is in a “dreadful” state.
“Blocked drainage leaks from the toilets and the floor disintegrated and is now in bits outside at the back of the hall,” he said. “The kids now play on a painted concrete floor and I dread to think of the skinned knees and broken bones which could result from a fall there.
“There is no storage and the walls are dreary. An aluminium roof covers one section and an old asbestos roof the other. In the winter and spring, the hall is absolutely freezing as the heating is inadequate.”
Beaver Scout leader Nick Courtier, of Castlepark, Ellon, says they want a hut that is “fit for purpose and functional”. He states the list of repairs it needs is “as long as your arm”, but flooring and heating are the most urgent.
The committee are hoping to enlist the help of parents and local businesses.
“We are hoping businesses will donate materials or assist with the repairs – we will also help where we can.
About 50 children from three groups – the cubs, scouts and beavers – use the hall regularly

I was a scout for many years myself, and I live in Scotland where the scout movement needs as much help as it can get.

Good luck with your fundraising! We are lucky enough to have a decent hall for our Scouts (79th Reading), and fully appreciate the difference it makes having good facilities for our activities. Anyway best of luck!
