Shillingstone Station Big Buffet Car

Due to the increased popularity of the heritage led regeneration project at Shillingstone Station, the catering and recreation facilities required are now constrained by the limits of the main station building. In order to best provide the interpretation and retail facilities that the Trust would like to locate within the station building, there is a need to move the catering to an alternative site, and in doing so be able to cater for the increased demand from tourists and local inhabitants alike. In keeping with the ongoing development of the site as a railway heritage tourist attraction, this project is to provide a railway buffet carriage catering for up to 58 people at any one time.
The project consists of 3 distinct phases:
- Purchase of the carriage from redundant Train Operating Company stock.
- Transportation of the carriage by commercial road hauler to the Shillingstone Station site.
- Carry out any refurbishment of the carriage in order to open for business.

The project will be fully sustainable and this application is for part funding towards a grant from the National Lottery 'Awards For All' scheme.

The Shillingstone Station project has come a long way since it's restoration start in the late 1990s. I have watched this and been involved both by running the website and being a committe member (now ex).

You can visit us at www.shillingstone-station-project.co.uk

A really worth while cause and preservation for our railway heritage for generations to come.
