Pulp Friction Smoothie Bar Project

Pulp Friction Smothie Bar Project provides opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties and learning disabilities to run our pedal-powered mobile smoothie bar at local community events, schools, youth clubs, trade fairs etc. This experience enables our volunteers to develop work-readiness, social and indepence skills and self-confidence whilst, at the same time, raising the profile of disabled young people within their own communities and in the world of work.

We turn up at events with a team of volunteers, all equipment and all ingredients and we encourage people to have a go at pedalling the bike to power the blender to make their own delicious smoothie which we then give out FREE!

I think this is a great way in helping people, and provides a service to the community at the same time. From this, many of the volunteers can go on to improve their skills in order to improve their own lives.

I'm really intrigued about this project as I work for a charity in Worcestershire/Warwickshire providing work opportunities and training to people with special needs to achieve similar aims to yourselves. I would like to find out more about you but the web link on this site doesn't work. Please can you contact me via our own website www.wherenextassociation.co.uk. Many thanks.

I like to support local projects helping young adults with learning disabilities as their opportunities are so limited

I chose this project because it is supporting young adults with learning disabilities and giving them an opportunity.

what an excellent enterprise - very eco friendly. Would never have thought to get customers to 'make' their own smoothie by pedal power. Very friendly staff too - using organic produce for both fruit and containers etc. Good luck with your venture.

As I was too late to enter our project for adults with learning disabilities, it was appropriate to vote to benefit others, helping them to do what most of us take for granted - but they need a lot of help to enter the world of work and to stay in it. The benefits are huge - along with growing self-confidence and self-esteem comes increased independence and a sense of usefulness and fulfilment.

No body chooses to have a learning difficulty or disability, which can profoundly effect the quality of life not just of the individual but also of family and carers. Four years ago, when my grandson was born, our family were faced with this prospect. Fortunately, he progressed amazingly well, although he may still hava slight learning difficulty. After facing this prospect, I support any project which addresses issues and profile of those with learning difficulties or disabilities.

What a great job you do! You deserve all the votes you can get - can small projects succeed versus large ones? I do hope so!

I think this is a great new project offering opportunities that are hard to find for young adults with learning disabilitites - and great smoothies too - a winning combination already but support needed so the good work can continue.

Jill August 25, 2010 04:42 pm
