Kids for Kids UK Film Festival 2010

Kids for Kids UK Film Festival is a 2 day series of inspiring film screenings, fun workshops and exciting events all aimed at young aspiring filmmakers. The festival is taking place in Durham during the weekend of 6th and 7th November and includes a competition for ages 6-16 years to showcase their masterpieces. Film entries into the competition are registered in 2 different ages and 3 different genres. We have appointed a jury made-up of young people and representatives from the local film industry who will select the winners in each category and age group.
The festival will be hosted at the Gala Cinema and Durham Clayport Library where there will be an opening event, film screenings of competition entries, and film related workshops for young people to participate in. The workshop programme will include an opportunity to work with a professional deaf animator and filmmakers from Belgrade.
During the festival we will offer valuable volunteering opportunities to young adults aged 16+ to work alongside the festival team as ushers, hosts, workshop assistants and other front of house duties gaining hands on experience of event organising.
The festival will have a particular focus on provision for young deaf filmmakers and as we have a grant to pay artists fees we are seeking funding from Kerrygold to cover BSL signing costs of the film screenings and workshops, refreshments and travel expenses so that we can provide free transport for young people to attend from hard to reach areas of the county.

I am glad to encourage this enterprise as it helps deaf youngsters and does not exclude those from areas remote from the venue.
